This stamp issue celebrates the extraordinary artistic and musical legacy of Rick Wakeman, a long-time resident of the Isle of Man, whose pioneering work has left an indelible mark on both progressive rock and symphonic storytelling. The six-stamp collection not only honours Wakeman’s contributions to music as a solo artist and a pivotal member of the band Yes, but also highlights the rich visual artistry that has accompanied his career across five decades.
Each stamp features a unique artwork drawn from landmark moments in Wakeman’s discography, with a particular focus on the collaborative and imaginative visual world that helped define the identity of his music albums. Central to the designs is the integration of original stage design drawings and artwork inspired by the powerful narratives of Wakeman’s music—ranging from fantastical landscapes to mythological and science fiction themes.
The set includes five colour stamps based on original paintings and one black-and-white stamp drawn from a pen and ink sketch, offering both visual variety and historical depth. This stamp issue pays tribute not only to Wakeman’s musical genius but also to the collaborative art and stagecraft that brought his vision to life.
A celebration of artistic imagination, musical heritage, and local pride, this stamp issue is a fitting tribute to a cultural icon whose creativity resonates globally, yet remains deeply rooted in the Isle of Man
